  • Transform Your Narrative: Rewrite Limiting Beliefs With Coaching

The New Life Story Process is a structured coaching method that surfaces the subconscious scripts guiding your behaviour. Instead of forcing surface-level daily habits onto an outdated identity, this approach helps you rewrite limiting beliefs through coaching. You’ll examine your past conditioning, drop old protective scripts, and build a story that reflects your true potential.   Think back to the last time you tried to change an entrenched habit or step into a bigger leadership role. You likely started with raw discipline and high motivation. Yet, after a few weeks, an invisible tether pulled you straight back to where you started. When your progress stalls, it’s rarely a lack of effort or strategy. It’s usually an unexamined narrative operating silently beneath your awareness.   Psychologists call this your narrative identity; it is the ongoing story you tell yourself about who you are, what you deserve, and what you can achieve. When a new goal conflicts with an old internal script, the script usually wins.  The New Life Story Process helps you edit those foundational scripts, so your actions align naturally with your goals. Why Positive Thinking Just Bounces Off Affirmations, vision boards, and pep talks work on the mind’s top layer. They change what you think about. They rarely touch what you believe. While these methods sound encouraging, they treat symptoms rather than the root cause. Subconscious beliefs are not just abstract thoughts; they are deeply wired into your nervous system. A belief like “I must over-deliver to earn my seat at the table” often forms early in life as a survival mechanism. It keeps you safe from criticism or failure. Trying to replace that thought with “I am a bold, dynamic speaker” creates instant friction inside your mind. The brain spots the mismatch and returns to what feels safe and familiar. To truly change your inner narrative, you must work with the underlying story rather than painting over it. Where Your Inner Narrative Comes From Psychologists have a name for the filing system holding these beliefs. The American Psychological Association describes a self-schema as a set of beliefs about yourself that guides what you notice, how you read it, and what you keep. Most of yours were built early, by a much younger person doing their best with limited information. A child who learned that praise arrived only after achievement can grow into an adult who cannot rest. A child who watched a parent go quiet after conflict can grow into an adult who avoids hard conversations for thirty years. Both beliefs were intelligent responses at the time. Both are running on software written for a world that no longer exists. Over time, separate beliefs knit together into something larger. Northwestern psychologist Dan McAdams calls this narrative identity: the evolving life story people build to explain how they became who they are. Memory does not work like a tape. Researchers call it reconstructive. This means we rebuild our memories each time we think about the past. As we do, the story can change. The New Life Story Process, Step by Step The New Life Story Process is a structured, science-backed approach designed to rewrite limiting beliefs through coaching. Instead of imposing quick strategies, this method guides you through four distinct phases of narrative transformation. 1. Spotting the Hidden Script You can’t change a story you don’t realize you’re telling. So, first, bring subconscious patterns to light. These often sound like: “I must work twice as hard as everyone else just to prove I belong.” “Setting boundaries will cause people to walk away.” “Real success always requires painful sacrifice.” 2. Questioning It Fairly Once a story is on the table, it is examined with curiosity rather than blame. Where did it start? What was it protecting? Does the evidence still hold? The goal here is accuracy, not positivity. A belief formed at age seven deserves a fair hearing before it gets retired. Many of these stories were genuinely useful once, and honouring that makes them easier to let go of. 3. Finding the Replacement Then comes the writing. A strong new story has to be believable, or your system will reject it on arrival. Consider the difference between I have to prove I belong, and I belong here because of what I bring, not only what I produce. The second version is modest, specific, and true. Small shifts like this change the ground on which you make decisions. 4. Living It Until It Feels Ordinary A story only takes root when you put it into practice. Through mental visualization, calm body responses, and everyday actions, the updated belief becomes natural over time. Why Narrative Coaching Works Standard coaching typically targets immediate goals, action steps, and daily accountability. While those tools work well, they assume your internal mindset is already pointing in the right direction. Belief transformation coaching starts somewhere else. It treats the background story as the deciding factor because a strategy built on a contradictory belief tends to collapse quickly. This approach supports what gets built on it. That principle sits at the heart of conscious leadership, which asks leaders to understand their own patterns before managing anyone else’s. Who This Work Tends to Fit The New Life Story Process benefits anyone who feels stuck in repetitive loops despite their best efforts. It is especially helpful for: Leaders who look successful from the outside and feel hollow or exhausted on the inside Professionals in transition who cannot name what they actually want Anyone who keeps producing a result their conscious mind never ordered If logic alone has failed to move a pattern for years, the pattern probably lives below logic.  H2: What Happens When You Change Your Inner Narrative The results of belief-level change are often subtle yet profound. You won’t wake up as a completely different person overnight. Instead, you’ll notice that former stress triggers lose their power over you. Before: A missed deadline feels like a direct threat to your self-worth, which sets off a spiral of –> Read full article

  • Why Nervous System Regulation for Leaders Changes Everything

Nervous System Regulation for Leaders: Why Your Body Leads Before Your Mind Does Nervous system regulation for leaders is the physical groundwork underneath how you think, decide, and connect. Your body reads a room and picks a response before your conscious mind gets a vote, which is why steady leadership starts with a steady system. The good news is that this is a trainable skill, built through small practices before, during, and after pressure. If you want support putting it into practice, explore transformational coaching with Diana Ingrid.   Am I safe right now, or am I in danger? Deep inside you, your nervous system is always working in the background, always asking this simple question. And it does this scanning long before you have time to consciously think about what is happening.   When your body feels safe, you can listen easily, solve tricky problems, and speak with kindness. On the contrary, when your body senses a threat, even a small social threat, like a coworker doubting your plan, it flips a quick switch into survival mode. In survival mode, your body prioritizes speed over careful thinking. Under stress, the part of your brain that handles careful thinking and steady judgment works less well. Your focus narrows. You suddenly want to interrupt, argue, or shut down.  This used to happen to me, too. I usually worked out what I should have said in the car on the way home, word for word. In that meeting room, I could not help myself not to react defensively instead of pausing and acting. The good news? You can train your body to stay calm, and it changes how you lead.    Stress Is Contagious: How Your State Spreads to Your Team Your physical state is never invisible. In fact, it spreads across an entire room like a ripple in water. Human beings naturally pick up on the feelings of people around them, especially the person in charge. When you walk into a room holding a lot of tension, your team senses it instantly through your tone of voice, your quick pace, and your tight facial muscles. The opposite is also true. When you walk into a tough talk feeling grounded, your team feels that peace, too. Faking it will not do the job, though. People can feel the gap between your face and the rest of you.  How Conscious Leaders Regulate Their Nervous System: The Before Through our stress-response leadership coaching, I teach leaders that how you feel when you walk into a room matters just as much as what you plan to say.  Simple Practice How to Do It Why It Helps Your Brain Longer Exhales Breathe out longer than you breathe in (e.g., inhale for 4 seconds, exhale for 6). Tells your body the emergency is over Feel Your Feet Press your feet flat on the floor and feel the chair underneath you. Pulls your racing thoughts out of the clouds and back to earth. Name the Feeling Gently tell yourself, “I am feeling defensive right now.” Helps put space between how you feel and how you choose to act. How Conscious Leaders Regulate Their Nervous System: The During  During a fast-moving meeting, you can’t stop everything to go do a twenty-minute meditation. But you can learn to spot your body’s early warning signs. Stress always leaves physical clues before bad choices happen: Muscle Clues: A clenched jaw, raised shoulders, or a tight knot in your stomach. Voice Clues: Talking much faster, interrupting, or holding your breath. Heat Clues: A warm rush in your face, or a strong urge to run out of the room. This is usually one of the first things I work on with someone. My own tell is speed. I start talking faster than usual, breathing in more often than breathing out and some part of me notices, and I keep going anyway. Once you notice your personal cue, you can buy yourself a quick pause: Take a slow sip of water. Ask the other person, “Can you tell me a bit more about that?” Shift your weight gently in your seat. These tiny breaks give your brain time to reset so you can respond with wisdom instead of snapping back. How Conscious Leaders Regulate Their Nervous System: The After  Stress doesn’t just disappear when the anxiety-inducing moment ends. Your body needs a clear sign that the hard part is over so it can drop its guard. Without that sign, stress accumulates like heavy baggage. This is why so many people feel totally drained by 3:00 PM. You can help your body drop that extra stress with simple moves: Move Your Body: Take a quick two-minute walk, shake out your hands, or gently stretch your arms. Step Outside: Look at the sky for a moment between calls, or sit without looking at your phone. What Stress Response Leadership Coaching Really Teaches Worth saying clearly: the goal is not to be calm all the time. You will still get triggered. You will still miss your own tell and react before you catch it. What changes are how often it happens, how fast you notice, and how quickly you come back. Give it a few months, and you’ll realize that hard things stay hard, but they knock you over less. You spend more of your day in a state where you think clearly and listen well. A transformational leadership coach can speed that up by spotting the patterns you are standing too close to notice. That is what conscious, gentle leadership really rests on. Being present instead of performing. A body you have genuinely settled, so you have something steady to offer everyone else. My conscious leadership coaching brings this science together with deeper inner work. Reach out here to talk about what that could look like for you. Questions Leaders Keep Asking How long before I notice a difference? Small changes often show up in a few weeks. Bigger ones usually take a few months. Your –> Read full article

  • A Guide to Transformational Life Coaching in the Netherlands

Why Knowing What to Change Isn’t the Same as Changing It: A Guide to Transformational Life Coaching  Knowing what needs to change and actually changing it happen in two different parts of the brain. Intellectual logic stays in the conscious mind. Meanwhile, automatic reactions live deep in the nervous system. Transformational life coaching works directly with subconscious patterns to create lasting shifts that simple willpower can’t match. Explore how working with a transformational leadership coach creates true alignment. Self-awareness has earned its good reputation. We can name a trigger, spot a pattern, and trace a reaction back to its source. But we see this all the time with our clients: understanding a pattern doesn’t always make it easier to change. Most of what you do in a day runs automatically. The conscious mind reads, analyzes, and sets morning routines. It is not what’s driving your reaction when someone cuts you off in traffic or when a certain tone of voice makes your chest tighten. The subconscious does not respond to reasoning. It responds to emotion, repetition, and safety. It keeps old patterns running because they once protected you or helped you belong, long before you had any say in the matter.  Nothing is wrong with you! Take a moment to breathe that in. What you’re describing is the ordinary distance between understanding a pattern and changing it. These are two separate processes, carried out by two different parts of your mind, and the first has never been enough to complete the second. Why You Keep Repeating the Same Patterns Most people come to coaching with a pretty good idea of what’s going on. They already know their pattern, triggers and may even know exactly what happens next. And yet, somehow, knowing all of that hasn’t been enough to change it. That’s often where subconscious blocks come in. These can be old beliefs, emotional patterns, or ways of protecting yourself that started making sense when you were younger. Usually, they developed for a reason. The problem is that what helped you cope then may not be helping you much now. Take someone who learned early on that being useful was a good way to feel loved. As an adult, they may have a hard time saying no, even when they’re exhausted. Or maybe praise was mostly tied to achievement, which can make slowing down feel uncomfortable. Someone who grew up around a lot of conflict might avoid difficult conversations altogether, even when speaking up would actually make things easier. None of these patterns means something is wrong with you. They made sense at the time. In some cases, they probably helped you feel safe, connected, or in control. The trouble starts when those same habits keep showing up long after the situation has changed. That’s also why simply understanding a pattern doesn’t always make it disappear. Knowing why something happens is useful, but it doesn’t necessarily change the underlying belief or response.  Where Transformational Life Coaching in the Netherlands Fits Anyone who has spent time in personal development arrives with a collection of tools. Meditation apps. Affirmations. Sometimes, previous coaching or therapy. Those approaches have value. They may simply never have reached the layer where your particular patterns are held. There is a local wrinkle worth naming here. Dutch culture rewards saying the thing plainly, and that directness is genuinely useful. It can also leave the impression that once something has been named honestly, it has been dealt with. Patterns do not work that way. A pattern can be described out loud, accurately, in front of other people, and carry on exactly as before. One practical note before choosing anyone. Coach is not a protected title in the Netherlands. Psychologists and psychotherapists appear in the BIG register, while coaching sits outside that system, which means training and methods vary considerably from one practitioner to the next. It is fair to ask what a coach actually works with and whether their method reaches subconscious patterns or stays focused on goals and accountability. That question is where inside-out transformation separates itself. Rather than managing patterns from the outside with better strategies, it works to dissolve the subconscious blocks generating them.  What Coaching for Lasting Change Actually Works On If being self-aware were sufficient, you would have resolved this. Something further has to happen. Change that lasts involves the nervous system and the emotional body alongside the thinking mind. It works through new felt experience rather than new information. In practice, transformational coaching moves through four layers. Slowing Down Enough to Feel A big part of this work is slowing down enough to actually feel what’s happening. We often see clients who can explain their emotions very clearly but have learned to stay one step removed from them. They can tell us why they’re angry, anxious, or overwhelmed, but that doesn’t necessarily mean they’ve processed their feelings. Getting to the Belief Underneath. Sometimes a client knows they have a limiting belief but can’t simply reason their way out of it. That’s because these beliefs usually weren’t created through logic in the first place.  Helping The Body Feel Safe With Something New. It’s one thing to know that a different response would be healthier. It’s another to actually feel safe enough to respond that way. We may see this in clients who know they can set a boundary, speak up, or slow down, yet still feel a strong urge to return to what feels familiar. Building a sense of safety gives the body room to try something different. Practicing The New Response. Old patterns become familiar because they’ve been repeated over and over. New responses need the same opportunity. We encourage clients to practice these changes in real situations, starting small and building from there. It can feel slow, but repetition is what helps a new response become something they can rely on rather than something they have to consciously remember every time.
